Country-by-Country Reporting Study 2024 & Best Practices for Good Tax Governance

/Country-by-Country Reporting Study 2024 & Best Practices for Good Tax Governance

The landscape of tax transparency is undergoing a significant transformation. Large Multinational Enterprises within the EU will be subject to mandatory public country-by-country reporting (pCbCR) for financial years commencing on or after 22 June 2024. Some EU Member States, such as Romania, have chosen to implement these directives even sooner, with requirements starting from 1 January 2023. This shift towards transparency is occurring alongside the implementation of Pillar 2 and the impending introduction of Pillar 1, reshaping the tax system at its core.

The European Business Tax Forum (EBTF) has been at the forefront of this evolution, scrutinising CbC data as part of a wider initiative to elevate the quality of public discourse on the tax practices and societal contributions of large businesses. As tax becomes a focal point in sustainability reporting, evidenced by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and as stakeholder demands for comprehensive data and context surge, the concept of “good” tax governance is becoming increasingly critical. This is not merely a facet of broader corporate governance but a distinct and essential element of a company’s sustainability agenda.

We invite you to join us, either in person or online, for an insightful event where we will delve into the EBTF’s latest findings on public and non-public CbCR data. In collaboration with B-Team and the Tax Executives Council of the Conference Board, we will also explore the evolving landscape of tax governance in a dynamic environment. The event will feature a panel of diverse stakeholders discussing key topics:
• The implications of mandatory CbC disclosure in the EU and its effects on non-EU groups
• The significance of contextual information in CbC Reports and strategies for effective communication
• The global trend towards pCbCR, as evidenced by Australia’s draft rules
• The intersection of tax and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance)
• Defining “good tax governance” and its internal and external advantages
• Future trends in tax transparency, risk management, and seizing opportunities for enhanced understanding and preparedness
